Variability of yellow tulp (Moraea pallida Bak.) toxicity.

چکیده
Yellow tulp (Moraea pallida Bak.), collected predominantly during the flowering stage from a number of sites in South Africa, showed large variation in digoxin equivalent values, indicating variability in yellow tulp toxicity. Very low values were recorded for tulp collected from certain sites in the Northern Cape.

Spatial variation of epoxyscillirosidine concentrations in Moraea pallida (yellow tulp) in South Africa.
Moraea pallida (yellow tulp) poisoning is economically the most important intoxication of livestock in South Africa. Poisoning varies according to locality, climatic conditions and growth stage of the plant. The primary objective of this study was to determine the concentration of the toxic principle, epoxyscillirosidine, in yellow tulp leaves and to ascertain the variability of epoxyscillirosi...
متن کاملEvaluation of activated charcoal as treatment for Yellow tulp (Moraea pallida) poisoning in cattle.
The efficacy of activated charcoal as a treatment for cattle (n = 57) poisoned by Yellow tulp (Moraea pallida) was investigated. Treatment with activated charcoal resulted in full recovery, irrespective of the degree of posterior paresis, provided that this clinical sign did not develop within the first 12 hours after initial exposure to Yellow tulp-infested grazing. For instance, despite treat...

Two anaesthetized sheep were intoxicated with epoxyscillirosidin, the main cardio-active bufadienolide, extracted from Homeria pallida (Natal yellow tulp). The epoxyscillirosidin was injected intravenously as a bolus of 50 micrograms/kg, followed 30 min later by a continuous infusion in a normal saline drip (0.9% NaCl) at 25 micrograms/kg/h. In addition, another two conscious sheep were poisone...
متن کاملOcular Toxicity of Benzalkonium Chloride Homologs Compared with Their Mixtures
This study was performed to assess the in vivo ocular toxicity of benzalkonium chloride (BAK) homologs compared with commercially available BAK (BAK mixture) and to assess the ocular toxicity of BAK homolog after repeated ocular application. Rabbit eyes were examined by ophthalmology and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after 10 applications of BAK homologs with C12 (C12-BAK) and C14 (C14-BAK...
